- turning the dial up on cameron
- underlying threat that could ruin his marriage
- talking straight into my idea
- using words of another story to say something directly about another situation
interesting consideration
if someone good at instilling fear is on the receiving end of insult.. they will often escalate quickly. status and face become the priority of exiting the situation safely. which now brings me to subject of ego.
judaism is probably slightly more harsh on pride than anger although situation is nuanced. arrogance thinking above oneself is strongly condemned.
but healthy sense of dignity and self worth necessary to fulfil obligations and stand firm in ones values.
glory in jewish thought belongs to God.
flow in modern psychology is like the self got out of the way
ego isnt vanity from nothing it is a spiritual misunderstanding of something that was working correctly
the experience of channeling something bigger than myself is feels a bit wizard like … a little awe / a little fear
in judaism same word uses fear and awe
wizard someone who conducts it… .sorcerer someone that tries to own and weaponise it
fear is something healthy here … recognition something passing through.
appropriate response to something powerful is sobriety rather than excitement
how to increase fear:
- Studying rather than just believing — wrestling with difficult texts produces awe more than passive acceptance
- Witnessing scale — nature, birth, death, anything that dwarfs the self
- Acts of justice and charity — interestingly, doing the ways produces more fear of God, not the reverse. The walking deepens the fear.
- Sitting with uncertainty rather than resolving it too quickly
jewish scholars believe the lords prayer to be almost entirely jewish
